A study plan turns a course into a sequence of weeks. Each week has a theme and a list of things to do, and it unlocks for students on its start date. It suits school terms, intakes with a fixed timetable and longer programs. For exam prep or short courses, a self-paced course is usually simpler.

Each week opens on its own date. Past weeks stay open if you allow it; future weeks stay locked.

Set up the schedule

You choose Study plan when you create a course (see creating and running courses). Setup asks for:

  • First week starts: week 1 opens on this date.
  • Number of weeks.
  • Each week lasts: 5, 7 or 14 days.
  • Keep past weeks open: whether students can go back to earlier weeks.

Kelasi works out the end date for you. Weeks start empty.

Build the weeks

Open the course. Study plan courses show the plan on the Overview, with cards for each week.

  1. Name each week

Choose Edit week to give it a title (for example Fractions) and an optional description. Titles help students see where they are in the course.

  2. Add items

Choose Add item on a week to add a material, a quiz, an assignment or a meeting. Drag items to reorder them.

  3. Set each item's options

Mark an item Required if it counts toward finishing the week, or untick Students can see this to keep it hidden for now.

  4. Preview as a student

Choose Student preview to see the plan exactly as a student in a given week does. Locked weeks are collapsed and show less detail. Choose Exit preview when done.

  5. Publish

The plan is a draft until you choose Publish.

Switch between Cards and Calendar views to see the plan by week or by date.

What students see

Students see their overall progress, which week they’re in, and each week as:

  • Finished or with items done,
  • This week, open with its items,
  • Locked, with the date it unlocks.

Meetings inside a week show a Join button when they start.

Change the schedule later

Settings on the plan lets you change the title, start date, days per week, total weeks and whether past weeks stay open. Changing the start date moves every week with it.
