Quizzes are questions students answer in the app. Most are graded automatically; essays are graded by you. Open a course, then Classwork › Quizzes › New quiz.

Pick the kind of quiz

The kind sets sensible starting values. Everything can be changed later in the quiz’s Settings.

Then give it a name, choose a folder if you use them, and choose how to add questions: Write them myself or Generate with AI.

Any question can have a picture, including pictures as answer choices, and an explanation shown after the student answers.

Every question can have a picture, pictures as answer choices (or picture-only choices), an explanation shown after answering, and its own points.

Add questions

A new quiz offers four ways to fill it, and you can mix them:

Way Best when
Write a question Pick a type and type it. Tab moves straight between answer fields.
Paste or upload You have questions in Word, Excel, Google Sheets or a CSV. See question bank and import.
From question bank Reuse questions your organization already has, chosen by hand or drawn at random.
Generate with AI You have a chapter, notes or photos of book pages. See AI question generator.

Sections

Group questions into sections, for example Part A: Multiple choice and Part B: Essays. Drag to reorder sections and questions. Select several questions to Set points, Move to section, Duplicate or Delete them together.

Questions that need attention

The header shows how many questions need attention, such as No answer key, No correct answer or Has an empty option. If you publish anyway, Kelasi warns which numbers students may not be able to answer or be graded on.

Settings

Settings save as you change them.

Group Options
About Description, and instructions shown before students start
Availability Opens and Closes dates, late submissions and a late penalty
Time and attempts A time limit for the whole quiz, or time per question (which moves on automatically and turns off going back); attempts allowed
Grading Passing score; which score counts with several attempts (highest, latest, average or first); default points; partial credit; negative marking
Question order Shuffle questions; shuffle answer options
Results When students see results (right after submitting, after the quiz closes, after teacher review, or never); whether to show correct answers, explanations and points per question
Navigation Allow going back; show question numbers; questions per page
Security Require a password; block copy and paste
Leaderboard Show a leaderboard, always, after students finish, or after the quiz closes

Practice quizzes add practice session options: the fewest and most questions students can choose, the time range, and which questions they can drill (random, not answered yet, or answered wrong). Live quizzes add live session options; see live quizzes.

Publish

Choose Publish in the quiz header. If the course itself is still a draft, students won’t see the quiz until the course is published too. With Opens set in the future, the quiz appears as Scheduled until then.

What students see

Before starting, students see the kind, number of questions, attempts, passing score and dates, plus the rules that apply: time per question, no going back, negative marking, blocked copy and paste, or a late penalty. Quizzes open full screen, without menus in the way, and work well on a phone.

Results

The quiz has four tabs: Questions, Settings, Submissions and Insights.

  • Submissions lists every attempt, filterable by Needs grading, In progress, Graded and Late. Open an attempt to grade essays, adjust points and leave feedback.
  • When results are shown after teacher review, graded results wait until you choose Release results.
  • Insights shows attempts, average score, pass rate, average time and the hardest questions with the percent who got each right.

Scores go into the gradebook automatically.
