Creating and running courses
Create a course, choose self-paced or a weekly study plan, add teachers, publish it, manage the students in it and change its settings later.
On this page
A course is where teaching happens: one group of students, its teachers, and the materials, work, quizzes and meetings they share. Admins create courses and choose who teaches them; teachers fill them.
Create a course
Go to Courses › New course (or New course on the dashboard). Setup asks one question per screen:
Name
What students will see, for example Grade 10 Mathematics or UTBK Intensive Batch 3.
How students move through it
- Self-paced: everything is open, students go at their own pace.
- Study plan: content unlocks week by week. You’ll set the start date, the number of weeks and how long each week is. See weekly study plans.
Sky
The course’s color on cards and pages. You can change it any time in Settings.
Last details
Description, language, start and end dates, late work, grade visibility and discussions. All optional.
The course overview
Opening a course shows its overview: enrolled students, items waiting to be graded, the average grade and quiz score, a Needs your attention list (work to grade, students who have gone quiet) and the schedule.
From the header you can add new content, invite students, post an announcement or publish and unpublish the course.
Publish when it’s ready
New courses are drafts: teachers and admins can see them, students can’t. Choose Publish on the course page (or Settings › Students › Published) to open it. Unpublishing hides it from students again; nothing is deleted.
Teachers on a course
Open the course’s Teachers tab (admins only):
- Add teacher to add an assistant who can edit everything in the course.
- Make lead teacher to choose who owns the course.
- Remove from course to take someone off.
In an independent teacher’s organization there is no team to manage, so this tab doesn’t appear.
Students in a course
The Students tab lists everyone enrolled with their progress, average, how much work they have done and when they were last active. Filters show who needs attention and who has gone quiet.
- Add students to invite by email or to create the course’s class link.
- Open a student to see their scores against the class, materials opened, submission habits, attendance and an activity calendar. Teachers can keep private notes there.
- Select students to Set status or Remove from course, or Export CSV.
- Edit access on a student to set when their access starts and ends, with a note for staff (useful for monthly tuition).
Course settings
Settings in the course has three parts:
| Section | What you can change |
|---|---|
| Details | Name, description, start and end dates. After the end date the course shows as ended. |
| Students | Published or hidden, discussions on or off, links to the roster and the teaching team. |
| Color | The course’s sky. |
Late work, grade visibility and the course language are chosen when the course is created.
When a course ends
A course past its end date shows as ended. It stays readable for everyone, and it no longer counts as an active course or toward seats. Grades from it still appear in the gradebook and on report cards for that term.
