Announcements and discussions
Post announcements with photos to a class or the whole organization, pin them, share them on WhatsApp, and run course discussions with answers and pins.
Kelasi has three ways to talk to people: announcements for news, discussions for questions inside a course, and messages for private conversations (see messages and notifications).
Announcements
Post one
Open the composer
Choose Announce on a course page, or Manage › Announcements (admins and staff) or Teaching › Announcements (teachers).
Choose where it goes
Under Post to, pick a course or the whole organization. For the whole organization, choose who is notified: Students only or Everyone. Teachers can post only to courses they teach.
Write it
Add a title, then the announcement. The editor has bold, italic, headings, lists, quotes and links. Drop or paste photos anywhere in the text, up to 10 MB each.
Pin it if it matters
Pin to the top keeps it above newer announcements until you unpin it. Choose Post.
Students are notified in the app, and also by email unless they turned emails off. Editing later doesn’t notify anyone again.
Each announcement shows how many people have seen it, for example “Seen by 18 of 24 students”.
Discussions
Every course can have a discussion board where students ask questions and help each other. Open a course, then Discussions.
- New discussion starts a thread with a title and a message. Ctrl Enter posts it.
- Replies can be nested, and new replies are marked so you can catch up quickly.
- Filters: All, Unanswered and Mine.
Teachers can also:
- Mark a reply as the answer. The student who wrote it is notified.
- Pin to top important threads.
- Lock replies when a thread is done. Students then see that it’s locked; teachers can still reply.
- Edit or Delete a thread or reply.
Turn discussions off
Discussions are optional. Turn them on or off for a course in Settings › Students › Discussions. When they’re off, students can’t start or reply to threads.
