Every member of an organization has exactly one role. The role decides which tabs they see in the top bar and what they can change. If someone needs a different role, an admin can change it at any time, and it takes effect right away.

The organization's owner is an admin. Admins who also teach get the teacher tools in the courses they teach. The Staff role comes with Pro and up.

Admins who also teach

An admin can be added to a course as a teacher. They then see the teaching tools in that course, and the Teaching menu in the top bar shows the question bank, meetings and calendar. A private tutor running their own organization is in exactly this position: owner, admin and the only teacher.

Lead teachers and assistants

Inside a course, teachers come in two kinds:

  • The lead teacher owns the course.
  • Assistants can edit everything in the course too.

Admins manage the team from the course’s Teachers tab: add a teacher as an assistant, make someone the lead, or remove them from the course. Removing the lead leaves the course without one until you pick another; assistants keep their access.

Change someone’s role

  1. Open People

Go to Manage › People. Staff find People directly in the top bar.

  2. Pick the person

Use the search box or the role filters (Admins, Staff, Teachers, Students, Paused) to find them. Tick several people to change them together.

  3. Choose the new role

Open the role menu on their row, or Set role in the bar that appears when people are selected. Confirm the change.

Pause or remove someone

From the same list you can:

  • Pause access for 30 days, 90 days, or until you resume it. Paused people can’t sign in to this organization, but their work and grades stay, and they can be resumed any time.
  • Remove someone. They lose access to every course in the organization. You have a few seconds to undo it.

Paused or removed students stop counting toward your seats.
