Materials are everything students read and watch, laid out in the order they should meet them. Open a course, then Content.

Kinds of material

Kind Good for
Document PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other files. Students read them right in the app.
Text A lesson written in the editor, with headings, lists, pictures, colors and links.
Video A video file uploaded to Kelasi. Plus
YouTube A YouTube video, played inside the material.
Image A picture, diagram or photo of a board.
Link Any web page, such as a Google Drive file or an article.

Add a material

  1. Choose New material

Choose New material on the Content page, or Add material inside a folder.

  2. Pick the kind and add the content

Upload a file, paste a link, or write the lesson. Give it a clear title, because students see it in the list.

  3. Save as draft or publish

Drafts are hidden from students. When drafts are waiting, the list shows how many and offers Publish all.

Keep them in order

  • Drag materials to set the order students read in. Students see Start here on the first one and Up next after that.
  • New folder groups materials, for example one folder per chapter. Deleting a folder keeps its materials; they just move out of it.
  • Each material’s menu lets you Preview it as a student, Edit, Duplicate, publish or unpublish, or delete it.

Previewing files

Students and teachers open documents in a built-in viewer, so nobody needs Office or a PDF app:

  • PDF with zoom, fit width and page thumbnails.
  • PowerPoint slides with a full-screen Present mode and speaker notes.
  • Word, Excel and CSV files, with search inside sheets.
  • Images, video, audio, Markdown, code and text files.

Older Office formats (.doc, .ppt, .xls) can’t be previewed; save them as .docx, .pptx, .xlsx or PDF first. Anyone can still download the original.

See who opened what

Each material shows how many times it was viewed. For each student, the course’s Students › student page lists every material as Not opened, In progress or Completed. Students see their own progress too, as “3 of 8 opened”.

In a study plan course

In a study plan course, materials are added to a week. They unlock for students when that week starts.

Storage

Uploaded files count toward your organization’s storage, which is shared by everyone in it. Billing shows how much is used. When it fills up, owners and admins can add extra storage on any paid plan.
